Daisy Jones & The Six is two days away from premiering on Prime Video. The show, which is based on the novel of the same name by Taylor Jenkins Reid, has been in the works since 2019 when it was first greenlit, but due to years of filming delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s only just now seeing the light of day. Ahead of its official release, the show received advanced reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, which for the most part sing its praises.
Daisy Jones & The Six has a freshness score on Rotten Tomatoes of 73 percent as of this writing. That number has fluctuated throughout the day as additional reviews tickled in. At its high, it was sitting at 75 percent. When the first seven reviews hit the site, it debuted with 71 percent, which is an accomplishment in and of itself. The handful of rotten reviews brought that number down to 69 percent at one point, but ultimately the positive reviews outweighed the negative. Daisy Jones & The Six rests comfortably at 73 percent at the moment.
Some of the most common complaints have been that the show fell short of the pizzazz its novel counterpart is famous for, and that like an album, it has a few skip tracks. It’s also been faulted for relying on a tried and true storyline of the typical drugs, sex, and rock n’ roll trope, which, to be fair, is hard to steer away from when the show’s entire premise revolves around that very point. However, even among the complaints, there’s been praise for the show’s soundtrack.
The limited series sports an impressive soundtrack of 10 original songs written by Reid herself at the time of the source material’s publication. The cast, which includes Elvis Presley’s granddaughter Riley Keough as Daisy Jones, was tasked to bring said songs to life. Keough, Sam Claflin, who plays Billy Dune, and the rest of the cast save Camila Morrone (Billy’s wife), spent the majority of the COVID-19 pandemic harnessing their respective instruments, including their voices. What you hear is what you get. Each song is an original and each is sung and performed by the cast.
