With the show set to start shooting very soon in Hawaii, casting on Marvel’s ambitious new project, Inhumans, is really heating up now.
After learning last week that Game of Thrones star Iwan Rheon had landed the role of Maximus, today we’re being told that the studio has cast Hell on Wheels‘ Anson Mount as Black Bolt, “the enigmatic, commanding King of the Inhumans, with a voice so powerful that the slightest whisper can destroy a city.”
“Anson loves the challenge of playing a character who will only communicate silently,” said Jeph Loeb, Head of Marvel Television. “His enthusiasm mixed with his imposing almost regal persona made it easy to see why he is our Black Bolt.”
Added Buck, “Black Bolt is a character whose deep complexity must be conveyed without uttering a single word, and I’m very excited to have Anson on board to bring him to life.”
Though he’s a far cry from Vin Diesel, who had eyed the role back when The Inhumans was going to be a feature film, Mount is still a strong screen presence – which will come in handy for playing Black Bolt – and an underrated talent who definitely deserves a bit more recognition. As such, we’re happy to hear of his casting.
Set to debut in 1,000 IMAX theaters over Labor Day weekend before hitting the small screen two weeks later for an eight-episode run, Inhumans will be quite unlike anything we’ve ever seen before when it comes to superheroes on television. Boasting “cinema-quality visual effects,” and with the first two episodes being shot on IMAX cameras, it’s a hugely ambitious project for Marvel and one that we could not be more excited about.
