If you happened to catch Sunday’s premiere of Game of Thrones season 7, “Dragonstone,” you likely felt the echoes of one Ramsay Bolton.
Iwan Rheon’s unruly bastard terrorized much of Winterfell throughout the course of the show’s sixth season, and was ultimately left at the mercy of his own hungry hounds – much to the delight of Jon Snow, Sansa Stark, and Thrones‘ massive following. It’s a credit to Rheon, then, that the character of Ramsay Bolton was brought to life with a palpable menace, and his performance hasn’t gone unnoticed, as the actor is poised to play the juicy role of Maximus the Mad on Marvel’s Inhumans series.
Pegged for a premiere on September 29th following a two-week spell in select IMAX theaters, the small-screen family drama is comprised of eight episodes in total, and on the eve of San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel has today rolled out a handful of character posters designed to introduce the three pillars of its Royal Family: Black Bolt (Anson Mount), Medusa (Serinda Swan), and Maximus (Rheon), who is quietly plotting to overthrow his elder brother by instigating a military coup.
And though it may never reach the dizzying heights of Game of Thrones, there’s a hushed excitement swirling around Inhumans and its starry cast. With Mount, Swan, and Rheon at the center, the show’s ensemble also includes Ken Leung as Karnak, Eme Ikwuakor as Gorgon, Isabelle Cornish as Crystal, Mike Moh as Triton, Sonya Balmores as Auran, Henry Ian Cusick as Dr. Evan Declan. Also on board are Ellen Woglom and Chad James Buchanan, though Marvel is yet to disclose details on either of their respective roles.
Thankfully, it won’t be too much longer before we have some firm answers for Inhumans. Marvel’s superhero family drama will come out of the blocks swinging with a two-part IMAX premiere on September 1st, before the series joins Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC’s slate three weeks later.
