Move over, Scream; there’s a new late nineties horror movie being brought to the small screen. I Know What You Did Last Summer is reportedly being rebooted in the form of a television series for Amazon. Even more exciting is the fact that acclaimed horror filmmaker James Wan has been tapped to direct the pilot.
Little is known about this upcoming show other than the fact that it will be based on the 1997 mystery thriller. It’ll be interesting to see if Amazon decide to bring back any of the original cast, though. The film featured an assemblage of the decade’s rising stars, including Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddy Prinze Jr., Ryan Phillipe, Anne Heche, Bridgette Wilson, Johnny Galecki and more. Giving any of these accomplished performers a chance to reprise their roles or even play a recurring character would be a nice homage to the original, as well as a wink to people who love the source material.
Those fans don’t have to worry about whether or not this adaptation is in good hands though, as Wan has already proven himself to be more than capable at handling horror over the years. He’s directed terrifying modern classics like Saw, Insidious, Insidious: Chapter 2, The Conjuring and The Conjuring 2, as well as blockbuster action movies like Furious 7 and Aquaman. If anyone can ensure that this long-awaited reboot will be a hit, it’s him.
Wan has covertly been scouting locations this past week for an unlisted shoot happening this autumn, and now the public finally knows what it’s for. Horror fans should be thrilled about the chance to see any of this talented filmmaker’s work, especially if it’s based off of the smash hit I Know What You Did Last Summer. And while no release date has been announced as of yet, viewers are likely counting down the days until this exciting project arrives.
