As a longtime viewer of Supernatural, I can say that the series has done a fine job of wrapping up dangling plot threads in due time. Although, I’m still waiting for updates regarding how “our” Michael has been doing since being locked in “the cage” near the end of season 5, not to mention whatever happened to that Antichrist kid introduced during the same year of programming.
Technically, the absence of John Winchester isn’t quite the same deal, though many viewers have yearned to see Jeffrey Dean Morgan return to the role after being granted a sendoff in season 2’s finale. In fact, now would probably be a good time for a comeback, especially when you consider how Mary has been among the living for the past few years.
That said, our wish was granted last month when Morgan was confirmed to return as part of the series’ 300th episode. As you could imagine, the “SPN Family” danced in the streets following the breaking of that news. Speaking of which, filming on the milestone recently went down, and the veteran actor himself commented on the experience while appearing on Live with Kelly and Ryan, saying:
“I went up to Vancouver to go shoot a role that I did 14 years ago. They’re on their 300th episode, can you believe it? Yeah, that’s crazy. I’ve never heard of such a thing.”
Well, he’s definitely right about the craziness. Aside from Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, The Simpsons and Family Guy, there aren’t all too many currently airing scripted TV shows that have endured for such a long period of time.
From the sound of it, Morgan had a great time reuniting with co-stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, saying the following:
“So 14 years ago I played the father of Sam and Dean on that show, the two boys… so yeah, to go back and be able to do that with them was a blast, super cool.”
As of now, the specifics of his return to Supernatural remain shrouded in secrecy, but we’ll find out more once “Lebanon” airs on Thursday, February 7th on The CW.
