I don’t care how stupid it sounds, but I think I’m finally starting to reach a point where I’m realizing that I’m going to miss Jersey Shore when it’s gone. Obviously, the show is pure fluff and based around the premise of vicariously watching a bunch of strangers get wasted for a few years. But still, giving up a constant routine is no fun.
So as the series gets ready to wind down for good, Raining Men and Meatballs reminds us why we fell in love with the gang in the first place. As they get ready to spend their last weekend together on the Shore, the group does their best to get up to no good. Deena and Snooks hold “Meatball auditions,” Mike strips for everyone, Pauly shakes the house with his mad loving, and general madness ensues as the series finale looms ahead.
As everyone’s hanging out and talking amicably (sans awkwardness for once), Mike reveals that he used to be a stripper in college, which of course comes into play later in the episode. He realizes that his happenings with Paula aren’t exactly at an end just yet, as she continues to stalk him in the club, looking finer than ever. But when a girl tempts him and he gets ready to take her home, Paula swoops in and leaves her in the dust. I don’t even know the score anymore, but Paula is the champion here.
Pauly finally winds up with a girl and takes her home for the usual routine. While doing his thing, he apparently makes the bed shake the whole house, which is hilarious and completely unnecessary to the episode. Seeing everybody’s reactions around the house is one of the funniest moments of the season though.
The next day, Deena and Snooki decide to finally hold their long-awaited “Meatball auditions,” which goes about as well as can be expected from an event named as such. After getting a group of girls sufficiently wasted, Deena and Snooks make them do a bunch of ridiculous activities, such as doing body shots off of a creepy old guy and acting like idiots on the boardwalk. Deena brings the winners back to the house, where the rest of the group meets an interesting specimen named “Scotland” because she’s from…well, Scotland.
On their last night out clubbing, Deena decides to bring her finalists out with her, despite the unanimous hatred of Scotland. Luckily, the crazies leave the party early, giving the group the rest of the night to have a good time. It’s kinda sad that they didn’t get in one last fight or try to kill a guy while drunk in the streets, but seeing them do what they do best makes up for the lack of anything else.
Finally, the last Sunday is here, bringing with it the last Sunday dinner for the gang to all enjoy together. But no dinner is complete without the creepiest member of your family gyrating all over everybody else in a faux strip club, so of course we finally get to see Mike strip. Needless to say, it’s probably the funniest scene of the season, and it’s slightly heartwarming watching all these idiots have this much fun.
If you watched Raining Men and Meatballs, chances are you’re a fan of the series. Because of that, it’s safe to say that every scene that revels in the Jersey Shore gang having a great time together is enough to make fans start to miss the show already. The lead in to the series finale shows us that we’ve got one last beach party to look forwards to, a cake sabotage from Paula, and a sad departure from the Shore house for the last time.
Whether you’re ready for it or not, the series finale is just around the corner, and that stupid show about stupid people is coming to an end. Let us know in the comments if you’re glad, sad or totally indifferent about the end of a pop-culture phenomenon, and be sure to check back next week for our coverage of the Jersey Shore series finale!
