It’s tough to say which of Marvel’s Netflix shows is the best. All four have been tremendously strong (though Iron Fist definitely stumbled more than the others), but a pretty good case can be made for Jessica Jones being the most impressive. We’ve only had one season of it so far, but those 13 episodes were amongst the most compelling, gripping and engaging television we’ve ever seen. As such, expectations are through the roof for season 2 – which is currently shooting – and as production continues on, we’re starting to learn a little bit more about what to expect.
On that note, while speaking at C2E2 this weekend, Mike Colter, who plays Luke Cage, told those in attendance that when Jessica Jones returns to Netflix, it’s going to be “dark and heavy.” Of course, that’s not terribly surprising given how, well, dark and heavy the first season was, but it’s still nice to hear that they’ll be heading in a similar direction again. After all, one of the things that helped the show stand out so much when it first premiered is that it was such a far cry from the usual lighter fare we see with Marvel and wasn’t afraid to go to some very dark places. Especially with its villain.
As for what else we can expect from season 2 of Jessica Jones, well, we don’t really know too much about it just yet. However, recent rumors point to Typhoid Mary making an appearance, which is very exciting for fans of the comics. For those unfamiliar with her, the villain is a “former lover of Daredevil with low level psionic powers, including telekinesis.” She’s a great character on the page and would make a strong and formidable female antagonist for Jessica to face off against.
With production now underway, more and more details should begin to make their way online, and with any luck, we’ll find ourselves with another engrossing, complex and well-executed season of Jessica Jones when the show returns to Netflix at some point in 2018.
