Entertainment Weekly has today unveiled the latest set photo from season 2 of Jessica Jones, in which Krysten Ritter’s whip-smart private eye stands alongside her long-time adversary, Kilgrave (David Tennant). Further details on Tennant’s involvement weren’t disclosed, though we assume he’ll feature via flashbacks to Jessica’s tormented past, given Ritter’s reluctant hero brought an end to Kilgrave’s mind-bending reign of terror – exorcizing her own demons in the process – during the nail-biting finale of Jessica Jones season 1.

Perhaps in fear of undercutting the excitement generated by The Defenders – August 18th is the date for your diaries – neither Marvel nor Netflix offered up any form of statement/quote to coincide with EW’s reveal. Nevertheless, given that his mercurial Kilgrave is arguably one of the better Marvel villains across screens big and small, news that David Tennant is poised to revisit Hell’s Kitchen ought to leave fans weak at the knees.

Per EW:

Said to be even more binge-worthy than the first, the second season of Jessica Jones has been quietly recruiting a host of new players to star alongside Krysten Ritter’s Defender – a borderline alcoholic with a superhero problem – such as former Twilight actress Leah Gibson (Typhoid Mary?) and J.R. Ramirez as two series regulars.

Circling back to the addition of David Tennant, though, and we imagine that Jessica Jones will uphold tradition and incorporate trippy flashbacks to Jessica’s haunted past. Plus, the fact that The Defenders unfolds within a single week leads us to believe that each standalone series that follows will broaden the canvas quite significantly. And in the case of JJ, that could herald a number of big-name characters from the original comics.

Production on Jessica Jones season 2 marches on, and if online speculation holds true, it’ll be sandwiched between new helpings of both Luke Cage and Daredevil come 2018. A new season of Iron Fist is also on the cards, with production expected to kick off before the year’s end.
