The eighth and final season of HBO’s Game of Thrones is quickly approaching its April premiere, and we couldn’t be more excited for it.
As the power players of Westeros get ready for one last showdown, fans are starting to wonder about that all-too-familiar question: who lives, and who dies? Of course, the finer details of season 8 likely won’t be revealed for a while yet, but HBO has released a teasing promo tonight to keep us ticking over in the meantime. And we do mean teasing.
Seen above, the network’s 2019 preview gives us just a handful of seconds from Thrones to feast on, as we see Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) arriving in Winterfell together and greeting none other than Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner). “Winterfell is yours, your grace,” she says.
It’s not much, but it’s certainly enough to fuel our excitement ahead of what’s no doubt one of the biggest series finales since Breaking Bad. Whether it’ll be able to deliver or not remains to be seen, but we’re hopeful that the show will be able to go out with a bang after so many years of bringing us exhilarating television.
Led by the Night King and his undead army, we already know that the White Walkers will be marching forth into the Northern Kingdoms when Game of Thrones season 8 kicks off, and if recent comments from Harington are to be believed, this final run is going to be a “relentless” installment that doesn’t let up.
“It’s relentless; scenes that would have been a one-day shoot five years ago are now a five-day shoot,” said the actor. “They want to get it right, they want to shoot everything every single way so they have options.”
Excited yet? We sure are, and though there are a few spinoffs already in the works, it’s still going to feel like a true end of an era for both Game of Thrones and perhaps even TV in general when season 8 gets underway in April.
