It’s been revealed today that DC Comics character Gypsy is coming to the third season of The Flash. That’s a name which probably won’t be instantly familiar to most people, despite the fact that she’s actually a member of the Justice League…well, the Justice League of Detroit.
In the comic books, Cynthia Reynolds started her career as a superhero in Detroit with the Justice League of America. As the mysterious Gypsy, she’s known as an unseen defender due to her ability to create illusions and turn invisible, and she’s also been associated with the Justice League Task Force, the Conglomerate, and the Birds of Prey.
The character doesn’t have much history with the Flash, but she does have some ties to Vibe, and it was appropriately Carlos Valdes who revealed the news earlier today:
“There’s going to be a new visitor to our world named Gypsy. DC Comics fans will be familiar with Gypsy. She is going to be coming into our world and Vibe will definitely get to learn some new skills as part of getting to know her. So I’m excited to see how that plays out.”
With Gypsy set to join The Flash, all four members of the Justice League Detroit – Steel, Vibe, Gypsy and Vixen – will have appeared on The CW, so we’re holding out hope that we’ll get to see a few scenes with all of them together somewhere down the line.
We’ll have to wait and see if that happens, but it’s going to be interesting watching what this character brings to the show. If nothing else, having her as a love interest for Cisco has some definite potential, especially as that’s something The Flash has never really explored.
No word yet on who will be playing Gypsy in the Arrowverse, but as soon as we hear more we’ll be sure to let you know.
