The Scottish actress played Amy Pond on the sci-fi show from 2010 to 2013, before her career blasted into the stratosphere thanks to her roles in the Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers and Jumanji franchises. Yesterday, she went back to her routes, though, by visiting former Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat at his house, and there was one of the terrifying stone angels waiting for her.

The Weeping Angels were originally created for 2007’s “Blink,” which starred David Tennant, but once Moffat took over the reins of the show, he brought back the fan favorite monsters for two more stories. Two stories that bookend Gillan’s time on Doctor Who, in fact.

“Time of Angel/Flesh and Stone” were the first episodes filmed for the Matt Smith era while “The Angels Take Manhattan” was Gillan’s final fulltime appearance. Similarly, the race hasn’t been seen since their cameo in “The Time of the Doctor,” the episode Smith regenerated into Peter Capldi which also featured a cameo from Gillan herself.

But could either Amy Pond or the Weeping Angels return to Doctor Who? Well, the actress has said that she would love to team up with Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor at some point, so it’s not off the table. Plus, the Judoon are set to return in season 12, which proves that current showrunner Chris Chibnall isn’t ruling out bringing more old villains back on board.

Karen Gillan will star in Jumanji: The Next Level this December. Doctor Who, meanwhile, is scheduled to return in early 2020.
