Comedian Kevin Hart has spoken about how Hollywood star Bruce Willis inspired the second season of his action comedy show, Die Hart.
Hart’s series was quickly forgotten upon first release, but it’s been climbing up the charts recently across streaming services. Despite the initial tepid reception, the show is back for another season, Die Hart 2: Die Harter — released on Roku today and sees a fictionalized version of Kevin Hart attempting to establish his reputation as an action star.
Obviously, the name of the show draws directly from the Bruce Willis classic, Die Hard and Die Hard 2: Die Harder. However, in an interview with ET Online, Hart revealed that the inspiration goes deeper than that, as he attributed the show’s energy and synergy to Die Hard’s leading man.
“I’m a big Bruce Willis fan. I believe he is one of the best action stars of all time so it’s only right I would parody something after what he built.”
Bruce Willis recently stepped back from acting after being diagnosed with Aphasia. Sadly, the condition has since developed into frontotemporal dementia. Kevin Hart’s appraisal of Willis is bittersweet, but the comedian kept the tone light when talking about the legendary actor: “We’re two guys with amazing physiques and amazing understanding of how to kick a**.”
Die Hart 2: Die Harter is currently available to stream on Roku.
