Kevin Smith Shares His Verdict Of The First Titans Trailer

In light of DC Universe rolling out the ridiculously violent teaser for Titans, comic book scribe Kevin Smith has chimed in with his own thoughts.

Like it or lump it, Warner’s first-look Titans trailer is out in the open, and it’s laughably violent. Teen Titans Go!, this is not.

The reaction has been pretty mixed, with some calling out the show’s at-times gratuitous brutality and swearing (“f**k Batman”). It isn’t all negative, of course; there are those who have welcomed the mature direction of Warner’s fledgling DC Universe, which is expected to go live sometime this fall with Titans to boot.

Front and center for this one is Dick Grayson (Brenton Thwaites), whose crime-fighting abilities are called into action when Raven (Teagan Croft), a teenage girl haunted by literal and metaphorical demons, warns him of an unforeseen threat that’s about to bring society to its knees.

It’s all very melodramatic stuff, and Titans wouldn’t look out of place among DC’s ongoing Arrowverse. With that said, comic book scribe and all-around industry veteran Kevin Smith has now weighed in with his own verdict.

Spoilers: he’s sold. Over on Twitter, Smith drew a line between the mild-mannered Robin of old and the one starring in Titans, who drops F-bombs and stands on people’s necks without so much as batting an eyelid.

On a more general note, plot details for Titans remain thin on the ground, but one thing we do know at the moment is that DC Universe, a series in which Thwaites and co. will be playing young vigilantes, is slated for a fall premiere. It’ll be the first domino to fall, too, what with TV shows for Swamp Thing, Doom Patrol and an adult-oriented series involving Harley Quinn also in the works.

Stay tuned for more Titans coverage as we approach that all-important premiere date.
