Good news, Jessica Jones fans! Star Krysten Ritter has confirmed that season 3 of the Marvel/Netflix show should go before cameras very soon, meaning we could a new batch of episodes as early as next year. On the other hand, it means we’ll have to deal with the emotional fallout of the recent season 2, as Jess and her adoptive sister Trish Walker, usually the only person she can rely on, had their bond irrefutably shattered.

In case you don’t recall, Trish spent much of the last run on an obsessive quest to give herself similar powers to Jessica. After undergoing a dangerous procedure, she then killed Jess’ mother, Alisa. Sure, she was a disturbed murderer and Trish said she was trying to save her sister, but it’s still going to be difficult for Jess to get over that. In fact, the last time we saw them, Jess disowned Trish as her family.

Going into season 3, then, things will be very different between the two women. While attending Comicpalooza, Ritter spoke about her feelings of tackling this new dynamic between Jess and Trish, predicting that it’ll be a “challenge” to perform as the actress explained that she sees Jess’ love for Trish as a big cornerstone of her character.

“I don’t know and I’ve been thinking a lot about that, because we’re going into season 3 and how things were left were so hardcore. I built so much of my performance and so much of what I do with the character, if I ever get lost or if I’m ever like, ‘oh, what am I gonna do with this scene,’ I kind of always go back to Jessica’s love for Trish.”

Continuing on, she said:

“Trish is the most important person to her. And now she has betrayed her in this huge way, and I don’t know what’s gonna happen. I think it’s gonna be an interesting challenge for me, in my performance, to flip it. And really, that’s gonna be a big struggle I think, because it’s the only person she loves and lives for, to now have that taken away from her I think is gonna be really, really challenging and tricky. Yeah, I don’t know.”

Though she’s lost her sister and her mother, the ending of season 2 wasn’t all doom and gloom for Jessica. She opened herself up to finding a new family when she decided to accept her boyfriend Oscar’s offer to join him and his son for dinner, something she’d previously rejected. It’s possible that having them in her life could make her a less-broken person, then, as Ritter hopes that the super-powered super-sleuth will be a little more of a hero in Jessica Jones season 3.
