The ‘will she or won’t she’ saga surrounding Lauren Cohan and her return to The Walking Dead for season 9 has finally reached an end tonight. Thank heavens!
If you’ll recall, a few months ago, we learned that the actress was fielding offers from other television shows, as her contract was due to expire at the end of season 8 and the network wasn’t willing to give her the pay raise she wanted. Shortly after that, however, it was reported that the two parties were about to strike a deal and everything was going to work out.
Then, things took another turn when sources said Cohan was “actively looking for her next role” and did not have a deal in place with AMC yet for season 9 of The Walking Dead. Now, however, it looks as if the actress was able to reach an agreement of some sort with the network, as she confirmed to Entertainment Weekly tonight that she will definitely be returning for more.
“Yes, I’m going back,” Cohan told EW. “There’s a lot more Maggie story to tell.”
Indeed there is! And showrunner Scott Gimple has already teased what lies ahead for the character, hinting that she might take a villainous turn at some point.
“It looks like that to me. Lauren [Cohan] is so amazing in that scene [in the finale]. She’s full Maggie Corleone.
Season 9 of The Walking Dead will likely begin filming in the coming weeks ahead of its return in October. The question, really, is whether fans can expect Maggie Rhee to switch allegiances and become the series’ next major villain. Alas, only time will tell, but feel free to leave your comments in the usual place down below.
