How Legends Of Tomorrow Season 4 Finale Teased Crisis On Infinite Earths

Following Arrow's major hint at what's to come in this fall's big crossover, both The Flash and Supergirl followed suit by sowing the seeds for future developments in "Crisis on Infinite Earths." Arrowverse fans went into yesterday's Legends of Tomorrow's season 4 finale expecting much the same thing, then, and sure enough, it didn't disappoint.

Following Arrow‘s major hint at what’s to come in this fall’s big crossover, both The Flash and Supergirl followed suit by sowing the seeds for future developments in “Crisis on Infinite Earths.” Arrowverse fans went into yesterday’s Legends of Tomorrow‘s season 4 finale expecting much the same thing, then, and sure enough, it didn’t disappoint.

The episode, titled “Hey World,” saw the Legends finally defeat Neron, with Nate Heywood’s Heyworld amusement park proving key. Showing the world that monsters can be friends and not feared resulted in the future changing away from the dystopian, anti-metahuman one visited previously. The only catch was, though, that this would mean Zari would be affected, too. If her personal past was changed, she might no longer be a Legend.

In order to protect her from the changes, Zari had to stay on board the Waverider. But this proved impossible when Nate had to sacrifice himself to distract Neron so that Ray’s soul could be saved. Zari raced to interject and rescue him and while she succeeded, the timeline changed and when we last saw the team, it was Zari’s brother who was one of the Legends and not her.

This all ties into “Crisis” during the floor show at Heyworld. In the crowd we see the Monitor (LaMonica Garrett), who’s amusingly balancing a bag of popcorn on the Book of Destiny. He’s not there for a good time, though, but to keep an eye on the Legends. And it seems he’s not pleased with what he’s found, as he shakes his head at the team’s actions.

We can theorize that Mar Novu knows what’ll happen to Zari and losing one of the team like that could have a massive knock-on effect for the events of the Crisis. This follows on from the Monitor’s attempts to get the right pieces on the board in both Arrow and Supergirl. In the former, he took Oliver Queen with him to save the multiverse while he unleashed a couple of rogue elements in the latter – J’onn’s vengeful brother and a possibly resurrected Lex Luthor.

Initial poster art has confirmed that the Legends will be involved with “Crisis On Infinite Earths” after sitting “Elseworlds” out in 2018 and though we don’t know what role they’ll play just yet, the event is set to unfold across five episodes over two quarters – likely including the Legends of Tomorrow season 5 premiere.
