In addition to John Constantine’s memorable guest shot in the midseason premiere, the other major talking point regarding the back half of Legends of Tomorrow‘s third season has undoubtedly been that of Kid Flash’s arrival. Having originated over on The Flash, Wally West will become the latest hero to board the Waverider that’d used another Arrowverse series as a springboard.
Effectively filling the void left by Jefferson Jackson, Wally’s engineering knowledge will surely be much appreciated on board the ship. Still, it’s hard to ignore the fact that Central City could’ve used an additional speedster in recent memory, but I digress.
As expected, Wally will have a variety of different interactions with the Waverider crew, but according to actress Tala Ashe, not everyone may take to him right away. Here’s what she had to tease about her character of Zari Tomaz’s initial experiences with that of co-star Keiynan Londsdale’s in a recent interview with Collider:
“As a person, I love Keiynan so, so much. I can’t overstate how wonderful he is and how grateful I am for his energy. Whenever someone new joins the show, it’s an exciting new energy. You’ll actually see Zari and Wally clash. By the end of Episode 311, Zari is like, ‘Okay, these team members are my family,’ and then this new guy comes in and it’s like, ‘Who is this guy?!’ He’s very over-eager, and he’s shiny and happy, which is not Zari’s vibe.”
She continued on, saying:
“There’s actually a really fun episode, coming up, where you’re gonna see Wally and Zari solve crimes together, and their differences will be highlighted.
But I think, ultimately, there is an echoing of her own brother in Wally and I hope that actually gets explored more, as we go.”
Knowing that Zari will likely play a bigger role going forward, it should be intriguing to see how a character based in magic will get along with one that’s rooted in science, in addition to the other factors Ashe mentioned. Either way, it’ll sure make for good TV – and that’s something this series has consistently been doing throughout the current season.
Legends of Tomorrow airs on Monday nights on The CW.
