Want to get really creeped out this summer? FX has got you covered with The Strain, a vampire thriller series hailing from Pan’s Labyrinth creator Guillermo del Toro, who wrote the trilogy the show is based on with author Chuck Hogan. FX has been working hard to promote The Strain with an overload of creepy teasers, and now the action is heating up with the release of another ‘extended’ trailer for the show.
Though it only runs one minute and 32 seconds, the new teaser, titled “Takeover,” is chock-full of some creepy scenes, most prominently featuring the CDC’s investigation of a plane that goes dark at John F. Kennedy International Airport. On board, they discover two hundred bodies and four survivors. That’s just the start of a terrifying epidemic of vampirism, one which threatens the very existence of humankind as it spreads through New York City. Check out the teaser below:
FX will air a ten-episode first season this summer, but it’s widely expected that The Strain will run for three to five seasons, following the arc of the three books by del Toro and Hogan. Check out the plot synopsis for the first season below:
The Strain is a high concept thriller from Academy Award® nominated Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, author Chuck Hogan and writer/producer Carlton Cuse, which is based on the best-selling vampire novel trilogy of the same title written by del Toro and Hogan. It tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers, wage war for the fate of humanity itself.
Corey Stoll stars as Goodweather, alongside Mia Maestro, David Bradley, Kevin Durant, Jonathan Hyde, Richard Sammel, Natalie Brown, Sean Astin, Miguel Gomez and more. The Strain arrives on FX on July 13th.
