How exciting is it that House of Cards, Orange is the New Black and HBO’s Game of Thrones – arguably the three bankable heavy hitters of the current TV landscape – are prepped and ready to roll out new episodes over the course of the next few months?
Up first is Netflix political drama House of Cards, after the online streamer earmarked the Underwoods’ return for May 30th. Indeed, if you’re planning on binge-watching the show’s fifth season, you better do it quick; Orange is the New Black is also on the verge of its fifth season – June 6th is the date for your diaries – and today brings forth the first full-length trailer to prove it.
Picking up immediately after the fallout of OITNB season 4, it’s understood the next batch of episodes takes place over the course of three days. It lays the foundation for a relatively taut, binge-friendly season, and the official, slightly spoiler-heavy description reads as so: “A riot sparked by Poussey’s death quickly escalates when the inmates gain control of the prison. Once they get a taste of power, chaos ensues through the halls of the federal prison.”
Headlining the female-led cast is Taylor Schilling, one of the many inmates of Litchfield Penitentiary. There’s also room on the casting docket for Laura Prepon, Michael Harney, Michelle Hurst, Kate Mulgrew, Danielle Brooks, Natasha Lyonne, Taryn Manning and Uzo Aduba, who’s already scored two Emmy wins for her scene-stealing performance as Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren.
Orange is the New Black will break curfew and return to Netflix in time for June 6th. It’s the fifth time the online streamer has swung open the doors to Litchfield Penitentiary, but it certainly won’t be the last; OITNB has been renewed through 2019, which will take Netflix’s original prison drama up to its seventh (and final?) season.
