We’ve known about it for a while, but Marvel’s upcoming Loki TV series was officially announced last month at Comic-Con. The Disney Plus show will feature the Tesseract-thieving version of the God of Mischief from the alternate timeline created in Avengers: Endgame as he travels through Earth’s history to do what he does best: cause some chaos.

It was also made clear at Marvel’s SDCC panel about Phase 4 that all the Disney Plus series will directly fit into the ongoing continuity of the MCU. For instance, WandaVision will lead into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of MadnessHow Loki would play into the bigger picture wasn’t made clear at the time, but a new report may reveal the truth about how the series will lay the groundwork for Thor: Love and Thunder

FandomWire writes that Loki will conclude with the Asgardian trickster making his way back to the prime timeline, along with Mjolnir. Remember that Thor’s original hammer, which he borrowed from the past in Endgame, was returned to its rightful place in history by Captain America in the end of the movie. However, it seems Loki will get his hands on it in his own show and take it with him to the present, where he’ll appear with it in Love and Thunder.

This means that Loki will explain the first part of how Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster will become Thor herself in the upcoming sequel. We still don’t know the circumstances that deem her worthy of the power of the God of Thunder, but at least now we might know how she comes by it in the first place. Exactly how Loki loses the weapon and Jane finds it, though, is anyone’s guess.

It may be a while before we find out, too, as Tom Hiddleston won’t return until Loki hits the streaming service in early 2021. Thor: Love and Thunder then arrives in November of that same year.
