“We have to go back, Kate!”

Well, no, you don’t, as Evangeline Lilly (Kate Austen) recently conceded that she isn’t all that fussed on a possible reboot of Lost, the ABC drama that’s been off-air since 2010.

While promoting her title role in Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp, Lilly spoke to Entertainment Weekly (h/t Screen Rant) about that fabled island, and why, after six seasons as fugitive-turned-castaway Kate Austen, she has no desire to return for a potential reboot of the cult sci-fi gem.

This by no means the first time that a Lost reboot has been floated as a possibility for ABC… and that’s the thing. Rumors of a second coming have circulated for months – if not years – only to fizzle out before they gain any real momentum, which is why Evangeline Lilly is unlikely to reprise as Kate Austen. Even if the stars do align.

There’s a rumor every year that they are going to reboot Lost. The thing about reboots and remakes is that I don’t like them in general, period. I want people to leave Star Wars alone! I did love Rogue One, as an aside. But for the most part, I don’t usually love them. I feel like it’s just tainting something that’s precious. I’ve said I don’t want to do things in the past and I’ve done them – you know, never say never – but sitting where I am today, my assumption is no.

So is Lost dead and buried? Not quite. We’ve seen it countless times before – a dormant TV series is pulled back from the brink and given a new lick of paint by one of the industry’s major new platforms (i.e. Netflix, Amazon, Hulu), so even if Evangeline Lilly isn’t fussed, there’s still a sliver of hope that Lost will one day return. Even if it is just a sliver.

Ant-Man and the Wasp, meanwhile, continues the journey of Scott Lang and his newfound partner, Hope Van Dyne, this Friday, July 6th.
