More information was revealed for the upcoming Wonder Man Disney Plus series, starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Marvel’s producer shared tiny details about the show’s production and the direction that Marvel Studio plans to take this character to be presented on screen.
In an interview with ComicBook.com, Marvel Producer, Stephen Broussard, shared some of Marvel Studio’s plans in preparation for Wonder Man’s production. He teased that there will be a unique take on the Marvel character, whilst also using the comics for inspiration. Broussard also teased that this superhero story will be different from what we’ve seen so far in previous Marvel Disney Plus shows.
“[Wonder Man will] be definitely influenced by the comics. One of the things that we’re excited about it is that it’s going to feel very unique. It’s not going to feel like anything you’ve quite seen in the MCU before. And the kind of stories we can tell on Disney Plus, which has been fun. Like streaming, serialized storytelling is a totally different muscle. So, we’re having a blast making that one.”
At the moment, not much has been revealed for the upcoming Marvel series. Only two cast members have been confirmed for the project. The first is former DC star Abdul-Mateen II who will play Simon Williams. The second is Ben Kingsley, reprising his role of Trevor Slattery. The show is still in its pre-production stage, with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director, Destin Daniel Cretton tasked as the show’s executive producer.
There were rumors last year that Breaking Bad star, Bob Odenkirk will also be cast in this Marvel project, but nothing has been confirmed by either the actor or Marvel Studios.
Wonder Man is scheduled to come out in 2023. But due to its current state, there might be a chance it could be pushed to a later date.
