It almost seemed like Marvel Studios had forgotten Secret Invasion was even due on Disney Plus this month, but this week has proven that the House of Ideas actually had an intriguing marketing strategy for the show up its sleeves. After remembering it existed now it’s less than two weeks away, Marvel launched a thrilling mystery for fans to crack that gave them access to a password-protected website.
Naturally, it didn’t take intrepid internet detectives long to put the clues together, discover the code, and in turn what the website had in store. Feel free to play the game yourself, but if you want to cut to the chase the password is RSD3PX5N7S and once you enter it into TheInvasionHasBegun.com you’ll be treated to the first five minutes of the Secret Invasion premiere! And, thankfully, the footage confirms all our hopes about the show.
According to this extended clip, the show wastes no time in diving straight into delivering exactly what we’ve been promised from the Samuel L. Jackson vehicle — a conspiracy thriller spy series that’ll really dig into the fascinating premise of the shapeshifting Skrulls infiltrating the planet and also hark back to the winning, more grounded tone of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Plus, it looks like Martin Freeman’s Everett Ross won’t be as wasted as he was in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
For a moment there, it looked like Marvel might be embarrassed about the show, which set alarm bells ringing, but now it’s clear the earlier radio silence was likely employed to add to the mystery surrounding the series and to increase the levels of intrigue among the fandom. Let’s hope Secret Invasion lives up to what we’ve seen so far once it arrives on Disney Plus this June 21.
