Is Marvel Teasing Season 2 Of The Defenders With This New Photo?

The Defenders wasn't quite the show we were hoping for. You'd think that by now Marvel Studios would've gotten the hang of bringing together a disparate group of heroes into one team, but here the execution was a bit sloppy and (as star Charlie Cox admits), the pacing was too slow. Nonetheless, it had potential, which made the apparent cancellation of season 2 pretty painful for Marvel fans.

Back in August, Netflix’s Vice President of Original Content Cindy Holland talked about the difficulties of making and promoting The Defenders, saying the following:

“The biggest issue was the timing of production and launching of The Defenders, because what that meant is we had to shut down all of the shows, so all the actors could be available.”

That was quickly followed by the show’s Facebook page being renamed NX and used to promote Netflix’s new geek-friendly subsection. But now there’s an inkling that something might be back on the cards, and it might be another try at the team-up seriesThat’s because The Defenders Facebook page has re-re-branded itself back to its original content and has posted the image below:

It’s a cool poster for Daredevil season 3but what’s really interesting is that they say to “expect more good news soon,” and I definitely know what I’m hoping that good news is.

If season 2 does happen, there’s a chance that it could look very different to what came before. After all, we might see a new line-up of heroes. It seems as though Finn Jones’ Iron Fist isn’t going to be around anymore, so maybe he could be replaced by The Punisher? Jeph Loeb, head of Marvel TV, seems to agree as well, saying the following a while back:

“No, all we’ve ever said is that there are no plans right now [to do more]. It doesn’t mean that it’s off the table. And it doesn’t mean that it even has to be with the original characters that were in the first Defenders.”

Time will tell what happens here, but we’ll certainly be keeping our fingers crossed that Marvel’s planning something else for The Defenders, whether it be with the original team or not.
