Mary Elizabeth Winstead most recently impressed audiences with her role in the claustrophobic thriller 10 Cloverfield Lane, but the actress has now signed on for a starring role in the highly anticipated third season of Fargo. She joins an already excellent cast which is made up of names like Ewan McGregor (playing two brothers) and Carrie Coon.
Winstead is no stranger to the small screen of course, after starring in CBS’ BrainDead, but with that show unfortunately looking unlikely to return for a second season, she’s moved onto greener pastures.
In Fargo, it’s said that she will play Nikki Swango, a crafty and alluring recent parolee with a passion for competitive bridge playing. Nikki is a woman with a plan, focused on always being at least one move ahead of her opponents. The series has excelled when it comes to strong female characters thus far, so expect that to also be the case during its third year.
As creator Noah Hawley has been busy with FX’s Legion recently, Fargo won’t return until 2017, but based on what we know so far, it should definitely be worth the wait.
