Gotham is adding yet another tough-as-nails member to the GCPD, and this time they’ve called in the big guns. According to TVLine, the Batman prequel show has recruited The Shield alum Michael Chiklis, who will take on the role of the new captain of the Gotham City Police Department as a series regular.
Chiklis will not be taking on the role of a DC Comics character, but will instead play Nathaniel Barnes, who has been created solely for the series. Judging by the character description, it won’t take long for the infamous city to corrupt him, either:
[zerg]Barnes lands on the GCPD like a tornado, ripping out the dead wood of Gotham’s police force. He is a law and order zealot; unafraid of making enemies – on either side of the law. For Gordon (Ben McKenzie), Barnes is a hero and a mentor, someone with whom he can share the burden of heroism. Captain Barnes proves himself to be a strong ally to Gordon… but one day he will make an equally powerful enemy.
Chiklis seems well suited for Gotham, and is the kind of casting choice that gives me hope for the upcoming season. This actually marks his third foray into superhero territory; he played The Thing in the maligned Fantastic Four films directed by Tim Story, and led ABC’s short-lived No Ordinary Family.
Tell us, are you excited to hear that Michael Chiklis will be channelling Detective Vic Mackey on Gotham? Sound off in the comments below!
Gotham will return for its second season on September 21st, 2015 on Fox.
