“What’s the worst he can do?”
That’s the question posed in today’s all-new teaser for Mindhunter, Netflix and David Fincher’s serial killer drama due to premiere on October 13th. Adapted from the pages of John E. Douglas and Mark Olshaker’s Mind Hunter: Inside FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit, this promo finds one of the show’s two FBI agents walking into a holding cell to interview a convicted murderer – a convicted murderer who just so happens to be 6’9″ and a mighty 300 pounds. Suddenly that firearm looks like a child’s toy.
Set in 1979, Mindhunter stars Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallanay (Sully), Anna Torv, and Hannah Gross, and above you’ll be able to get a taste of the interplay between Groff and McCallany’s respective detectives. Their mission involves going face-to-face with imprisoned serial killers to identify their thought process and, essentially, what makes them tick. And if that doesn’t sound like a David Fincher project, we don’t know what does.
In fact, this is the filmmaker’s first directorial effort since 2014’s somewhat divisive Gone Girl. That being said, Fincher is no stranger to the realm of Netflix, having played an instrumental role in the success of original series House of Cards. Once Mindhunter has wrapped, he’ll be back behind the lens for World War Z 2, reuniting with Brad Pitt (Fight Club) in the process. Once scheduled for summer of 2017, the blockbuster sequel is expected to go before the cameras early next year.
Mindhunter, meanwhile, will be available to stream via Netflix on October 13th, and it’ll be interesting to gauge how audiences take to Fincher’s jet-black crime drama in light of the meteoric success of Making a Murderer. Granted, the former has already been renewed for a second season, so take from that what you will.
