Netflix Confirms That The Other Marvel Shows Are Safe For Now

Marvel fans were shocked when it was announced last week that Netflix had cancelled Iron Fist after two seasons. Seeing as the middling series had survived its critically-derided debut run, it was assumed that it was set to stay. Given this surprise move, then, it got viewers of Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and The Punisher fearing that maybe the streaming service would be coming for them next.

However, we now have it on good authority that the rest of the Marvel/Netflix series are safe for the time being. According to Inverse, Netflix’s Chief Content Officer, Ted Sarandos, revealed that it’s up to the company whether these shows live or die and right now, they’re “super happy” with the response that the other productions have received.

“Those shows are for us to cancel and we’re super happy with their performance so far,” said Sarandos.

Though that hadn’t been spelled out for us before, it makes sense that Netflix would be the one with the power to pull the plug on its Marvel shows, rather than the House of Ideas itself. Clearly, Iron Fist‘s viewing figures just weren’t enough to sustain it. But at least it sounds like Danny’s teammates don’t have that problem.

For Iron Fist fans looking for comfort, the company’s previously assured us that, though his solo series is over, the immortal protector of K’un-Lun would return “in some capacity” in the future. Our best guess would be on Luke Cage season 3 or perhaps a Daughters of the Dragon spinoff, if that ever happens.

Next up from the union between the two entertainment juggernauts though is Daredevil season 3. This looks poised to be the most critically acclaimed season of a Marvel/Netflix show yet so, presuming that audiences turn up to watch it, the Man Without Fear’s vehicle won’t be joining Iron Fist on the scrap heap anytime soon.
