If you’ve been keeping up with what Archie Comics have been doing in recent years, then you’re probably aware of how they’ve branched out far beyond comedy. Not only has the publisher injected more drama into their flagship books, but they’ve also released a variety of very solid horror titles as well, such as Afterlife with Archie, Jughead: The Hunger and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
Though many assumed that the TV adaptation chronicling the adventures of the teenage witch would land over at The CW and serve as a spinoff to Riverdale, that’s no longer the case. Instead, the show’s headed to Netflix, where it’s been picked up for two, ten-episode seasons. And with production well underway now, the marketing campaign’s beginning to heat up.
Case in point: in the gallery below you’ll find the very first photos for Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Though they don’t reveal a whole lot, the first pic shows us the titular character at some kind of gathering of witches, while the second shot gives us a better look at Keirnan Shipka in the role, staring at something unknown with her broom in hand.
Unfortunately, Netflix has been keeping any and all plot details tightly under wraps, but if you’re expecting something like 90s sitcom Sabrina the Teenage Witch, you’re probably out of luck. So far, the project’s been described as “tonally in the vein of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist” and is said to be a much more mature take on the character than what we’re used to.
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is expected to arrive some time this year and the rest of the cast consists of Jaz Sinclair as Sabrina’s best pal Rosalind, Ross Lynch as her mortal beau Harvey Kinkle, Michelle Gomez as Madam Satan and Richard Coyle as the sinister Father Blackwood.
