It appears the public’s opinion is what matters the least to Netflix. As users across the globe join together in disbelief about the recent news regarding yet another fan-favorite fantasy series getting axed, Netflix’s focus seems to lie elsewhere entirely, completely disregarding its terrible reviews.
Netflix dealt another blow to fans by canceling Lockwood & Co., a fantasy series that had captivated viewers throughout its entire season. This unfortunate decision adds to the growing list of axed fantasy shows after just one season, including First Kill and The Bastard Son and the Devil Himself. Curiously, amid the continuous cancellation of fantasy series, Netflix has chosen to renew Outlast for a second season, even though — quite literally — nobody asked for it.
Outlast reached our screens last month, with the promise of a new and unique reality show that would grapple fans onto the screen. To no one’s surprise but Netflix’s, it was met with a barrage of negative reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, where it received a total of 17 percent audience score, as opposed to the 80 percent Tomatometer provided by a total of five reviews. This incredibly low score seemingly doesn’t seem to perturb the streaming giant, as they greenlit season two just a mere month after the show’s release.
On an interesting turn of events, Lockwood & Co., one of the unfortunate casualties of Netflix’s string of ill decisions, boasts an impressive average audience score of 94 percent, albeit slightly lower than its Tomatometer rating of 92 percent — which is still a long way from Outlast‘s own score. Apparently, these numbers seem to mean close to nothing to Netflix, but probably they shouldn’t, as social media stays abuzz with the perturbing news of the continuous sequence of axes.
Despite this twist of fate, Outlast is still somehow leaving this needless race victorious, though its release date has not yet been disclosed.
