You can set your watch to any mystery thriller produced by Netflix to waste no time at all in becoming one of the most-watched titles on the platform irrespective of whether it’s a feature film, TV show, or miniseries, so there are no surprises to be found after Muted (also known as El silencio) made a beeline right towards the top of the charts.
The Spanish-language story opens with Arón Piper’s Sergio Ciscar getting imprisoned for six years after being arrested for the murder of his parents while still a teenager. However, following a time-jump, the plot thickens in more ways then one when the people tasked to oversee his release back into society begin to suspect that either he’s up to something, or he’s completely innocent.
Almudena Amor’s psychiatrist Ana Dussuel heads up the team keeping an eye on Sergio, who hasn’t spoken a single word or shown the slightest hint of collaborating with or assisting the authorities into their investigation into his mother and father’s demise. If you’ve ever watched television in your life before, then you may have a slight inkling of how and where the dominoes are going to fall, but Netflix subscribers have been desperate to find out either way.
Per FlixPatrol, Muted has debuted as the third top-viewed episodic title around the world, and while it hasn’t quite managed to seize hold of number one, there’s no shame in that when it’s a pair of spin-offs occupying first and second place via Bridgerton offshoot Queen Charlotte and To All the Boys I’ve Loved continuation XO, Kitty.
