Another main cast member of the Netflix series Sex Education has announced that they’re leaving the show after season four. This comes after a significant number of the show’s main cast have already announced their departures, especially Ncuti Gatwa, who was recently announced to play the 15th Doctor in Doctor Who.
Emma Mackey, who played the role of Maeve Wiley, announced that she’s leaving the show after four seasons. In an interview with RadioTimes, she said that she’s already said goodbye to her character. It was revealed previously that Mackey would have a less prevalent role in the upcoming season, and she told RadioTimes that she was excited to be back despite her less consistent appearance.
“Season 5? I’ve just finished the fourth one last week! No I don’t think I’ll be in season 5. I’ve said goodbye to Maeve.
“It feels very familiar! And it’s a bit more sporadic because we have more characters. So there’s… I’m not in it as consistently.
Multiple cast members have announced their departure from the show after season three ended in September 2021. Some of them include Simone Ashley (Olivia), Patricia Allison (Ola), Tanya Reynolds (Lily), and Rakhee Thakrar (Ms. Sands). All have revealed that they’re no longer involved in the upcoming season due to a variety of seasons. Most recently, Gatwa (Eric) revealed that he’s no longer returning to the show for season five due to Doctor Who.
Sex Education won’t be the last time fans will see Mackey on screen. The actress is set to star in the upcoming Barbie movie with Margot Robbie, Simu Li, and Ryan Gosling. The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 20, 2023.
