Despite people’s prediction for HBO’s House of the Dragon, it turns out viewership spiked post Labor Day. This is good news as it was reported previously that viewership has dropped drastically when episode three premiered on Sunday. Only 2.5 million people tuned in on cable to see the latest episode compare to the first two.

But, new data released shows that the viewership for episode three is not only dramatically higher than 2.5 million – it’s dramatically higher than either of the episodes to come before it.

According to Deadline, viewership for episode three has increased by 27 percent on HBO Max. Over 16 million viewers tuned in to watch the latest episode based on data from Nielsen and from HBO Max directly. HBO told Deadline that, despite the Labor day pause that caused views to drop during the episode’s release, viewership was higher compared to episode 2 (10.3 million) and the premiere (9.9 million). It is important to note that this is based on data based on the streaming platform, not just the cable channel itself.

House of the Dragon takes place 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. The series was based on George R.R. Martin’s book, Fire & Blood, and was written by Gabe Fonseca & Ryan Condal.

Episode three of House of the Dragon takes place almost three years after the events of the premiere, as King Viserys Targaryen and Alicent Hightower celebrate their son Aegon’s second birthday. Meanwhile, Viserys is now in the process to make sure his daughter, Rhaenyra gets married due to ‘tradition’, but also wants to ensure that his daughter’s happiness comes first. Meanwhile, Daemon has joined forces with the Valyrians in an attempt to bring down the Crabfeeder.

All three episodes are available to stream on HBO Max, with new ones coming out every Sunday.
