Who would’ve thought that the micro-budgeted 1979 horror film from Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell and Robert Tapert would spawn an entire franchise – still running 39 years later? Arguably, very few, and yet here we are staring down the barrel of a third season of Ash Vs. Evil Dead.
With its whole life force drawn from the initial premise of teenagers finding an ancient Sumerian text – the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis – in a cabin in the woods, the Evil Dead series has transported us through time and turned Bruce Campbell’s Ash into an enduring hero of the horror genre. Now, four decades on, we’re quickly approaching the return of Ash vs. Evil Dead for its third outing on the air and to get us excited, Starz has just released a batch of groovy new photos.
As you’ll see in the gallery down below, there’s quite a bit to feast on here, with several shots teasing the blood and gore that the series is known for and numerous looks at both Ash and all the supporting players. It’s really the perfect little appetizer to hold us over until Ash vs. Evil Dead is back on our screens and only has us that much more excited for its return.
From what we know so far, season 3 will place Bruce Campbell’s one-armed legend in the company of his long-lost daughter, Brandy Barr, played by newcomer Arielle Carver-O’Neill. The mother? Candy Barr – no, really – and as the official synopsis below teases, evil’s about to learn to never “get in between a papa bear and his cub.”
The third season finds Ash, having gone from murderous urban legend to humanity-saving hometown hero, discovering that he has a long-lost daughter who’s been entrusted to his care. When Kelly witnesses a televised massacre with Ruby’s fingerprints all over it, she returns with a new friend to warn Ash and Pablo that evil isn’t done with them yet. But evil will learn to never get in between a papa bear and his cub.
Hail to the king, baby! Ash vs. Evil Dead season 3 will premiere day and date with AMC’s The Walking Dead on Sunday, February 25th. Those who prefer to get their undead action on the go will be happy to note that all episodes of Starz’s horror hit will also be available to stream and/or download via the official app.
