Patrick Stewart’s Jean-Luc Picard is all set to make his big comeback, but what about his former allies?
We know that the legendary actor will soon headline a new Star Trek show from CBS and franchise architect Alex Kurtzman, with the idea for it to be a standalone drama designed to explore Picard’s next steps now that The Next Generation has come and gone. However, there’s been no word yet on if any of his old crew members will join him.
Fans have been holding out hope that the series may place Stewart back alongside some of his Trek family, which included LeVar Burton (Geordi LaForge), Gates McFadden (Beverly Crusher), Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi), Brent Spiner (Data) and Michael Dorn (Worf). And while we still don’t know if any of those individuals will show up, Kurtzman has now offered a sliver of hope.
While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter in a recent interview, the producer refused to confirm or deny anything when asked if some of the Next Generation cast members would be involved, but did tease that “anything could happen.” And while that’s hardly a confirmation that we’ll see any of the aforementioned actors, he’s at least not ruling out the possibility.
In any case, this new Star Trek show revolving around Captain Picard is a tantalizing prospect for TNG fans. After all, Nemesis was always thought to be a hugely underwhelming send-off for (in my opinion) the best Trek crew, so why not finally make amends for it with this new show? We already know that some of The Next Generation cast would be up for a return, too, so it’d be a real shame if CBS doesn’t use this opportunity to bring at least a few of them back for one last adventure with their captain.
