Next week’s Heroes Reborn season finale has now become the series finale, it seems, with NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt revealing that there are no plans in place for season 2.
The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop, quoting Greenblatt as saying that a ‘one-and-done’ approach was always the intention for the miniseries, though appeared to leave the door open for creator Tim Kring to dream up another chapter at some point further down the line.
[zergpaid]“That was always the plan, unless Tim woke up one day and said, ‘Oh, I have another chapter to tell.’ But I think we’re coming to the end of the world, maybe. Stay tuned.”
Premiering back in September of last year to a sizeable audience of 6.1 million, the viewership for Heroes Reborn steadily began to decline as the season wore on, returning in January to less than half of the pilot’s boon.
Pitched as an event miniseries comprising 10 episodes, it’s clear that Kring treated Reborn as more of an extension to the lore than an out and out continuation, with the spinoff’s arc “reconnecting with the basic elements of the show’s first season.” Taking place long after the events of those ordinary people thrust into extraordinary circumstances that underpinned the original season, Kring wanted fans to treat Reborn like its own beast, and it now looks set for its curtain call.
Heroes Reborn is poised to make its final bow on January 21.
