For several years now, the Arrowverse certainly hasn’t been shy when it comes to fleshing out the Multiverse. In fact, last year’s crossover event, “Crisis on Earth-X,” really took that concept to new heights. But now that we know of how this fall’s offering has been dubbed “Elseworlds,” it’s expected that a wealth of new storytelling possibilities will open up.
So, if you required something else assuring you how grand in scale this three-night special will be, it’s worth checking out LaMonica Garrett (The Last Ship, Designated Survivor) as Mar-Novu AKA The Monitor in the first image to officially be released. Readers of DC comic books will instantly recognize this character as part of a race of beings who oversee the Multiverse as a whole, so you’d better believe that his involvement is a pretty big deal.
Of course, there was that set photo circulating last week, though it really can’t compare with this crisp, kick-ass pic arriving courtesy of Entertainment Weekly. In my view, this is one of the most accurate costuming jobs the Arrowverse crew have pulled off to date, so I’m excited to see how this guy factors into the grand scheme of things.
By that, you’ve probably surmised we still don’t know what kind of role the Monitor will play, but the Flash himself, Grant Gustin, did his job when it comes to hyping his colleague:
“LaMonica was ridiculous, like seeing him in his suit, he’s just a monster. He’s like an absolute unit. He doesn’t have to do a lot with his performance. He’s so intimidating with just these subtleties, so that’s dope.”
Right now, I can’t help wondering if this’ll eventually lead to the introduction of the universe-devouring Anti-Monitor and, likewise, an adaptation of Crisis on Infinite Earths. One can only hope.
This fall’s Arrowverse crossover begins on Sunday, December 9 with The Flash, continues on Monday, December 10 with Arrow, and wraps up on Tuesday, December 11 with Supergirl.
