Hulu’s hit series Only Murders in the Building could be taking fans on a wild ride for its third season as news of a reported musical project was released to the general public.

For context, Only Murders in the Building follows three strangers whose love for true crime podcasts inspires them to record their own as they try to solve murder investigations that occurred in their New York building. The show stars Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, Martin Short, Michael Cyril Creighton, Cara Delevingne, Zoe Colletti, Amy Ryan, Aaron Dominguez, and many others.

In a recent interview with Variety, composer Marc Shaiman and director Scott Wittman revealed that they have worked on the third season of Only Murders in the Building. This admission is telling because both Shaiman and Wittman have a history of working on Broadway shows.

The pair is currently nominated for various Tony Awards for participating in Some Like It Hot musical. In the discussion, Shaiman teased that although he and Wittman have collaborated on the hit Hulu series, they were kept from revealing any other details on the project:

“We’ve worked on the next season of Only Murders in the Building. We’re not allowed to say anything more than that, but you could probably do that math.”

Based on Shaiman’s admission, it is unclear how many Only Murders in the Building musical episodes could be included in season three and whether the show’s main stars, Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, and Martin Short, would be a part of it. This isn’t the only shakeup for the upcoming season of the series.

Last year, it was announced that Paul Rudd and former Grey’s Anatomy star Jesse Williams were joining the season three cast. While in Jan. 2023, legendary actress Meryl Streep announced she was also joining the fray in an Instagram post.

The third season of Only Murders in the Building is set to premiere on Aug. 8 on Hulu
