New Scream: Resurrection Clip Pays Tribute To The Original

Though the Scream franchise hasn't had as rough of a time as, say, Friday the 13th in recent memory, the current decade hasn't exactly been all peaches and cream for it. For starters, 2011's attempted revival of the film series didn't prove as successful as the studio had hoped, with fans of the MTV show being dealt a gut punch when that separate storyline had been abandoned after only two seasons.

Instead, our next dose of teen slasher fun will come by way of Scream: Resurrection, a three-night prime time event set to air on VH1 beginning next week. As much as I enjoyed the aforementioned MTV series, I must admit the first trailer for the re-reboot probably pleased more purists out there – most likely because we were treated to the return of the classic Ghostface mask, as opposed to the Brandon James headgear.

If that weren’t enough, the first clip taken from the latest endeavor really hearkens back to Wes Craven’s 1996 classic. Seen at the top of this article, the footage finds Paris Jackson in a situation highly similar to one endured by Drew Barrymore’s character back in the day. Of course, there’s a little twist at the end, but I won’t spoil it for you.

As you can imagine, there are more new faces being introduced to the Scream family than just Paris Jackson. If we’re to do a quick headcount, then you should know that Mary J. Blige, Keke Palmer, RJ Cyler, Giorgia Whigham, Jessica Sula, Tyga, C.J. Wallace and Giullian Yao Gioiello have been added to the roster as well.

Scream: Resurrection kicks off on Monday, July 8th and ends on Wednesday, July 10th on VH1. All six episodes will air, two at a time, with a 9pm Eastern starting time on each evening.
