They say the night is dark and full of terrors spoilers. But so too is the Internet.
As we approach the eighth and final season of HBO’s Game of Thrones, viewers are beginning to find themselves caught up in a thick veil of secrecy, as Thrones fans the world over walk on eggshells in order to avoid any spoiler-sensitive material – be it interviews, promos or leaked set photos. And they’re not the only ones.
Over on Vulture, Game of Thrones mainstay Peter Dinklage was recently quizzed about the fate of Tyrion Lannister going into season 8, and what lies ahead for his scheming, but no less heroic, Dwarf.
Unsurprisingly, Dinklage refused to be drawn on any specifics, but he did hint at a pretty grim finale for Tyrion – that is, assuming he isn’t blindsiding viewers in order to throw everyone off the scent.
I feel very, very — I’m trying to find the right word. I think he was given a very good conclusion. No matter what that is — death can be a great way out.
This isn’t the first time – nor is it likely to be the last time – that a Thrones cast member has offered up some clues about the impending finale, and in the case of Dinklage, we can readily expect his Tyrion Lannister to hold a pretty prominent role across HBO’s six-part finale.
That’s right; as opposed to the usual 10-episode stint, Game of Thrones season 8 will span just six episodes in total. There’s even been talk of potential theatrical releases for each feature-length installment, though it’s far too soon for HBO to be talking specifics.
Game of Thrones reaches its long-anticipated finale sometime next year. Details of an exact premiere date are being kept locked away in the HBO vaults, but we’ll be sure to send a raven as soon as the Powers That Be settle on an official ETA.
