With a May premiere date now locked, AMC has rolled out a new featurette that takes you behind the scenes on Preacher, the cult comic adaptation cooked up by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and showrunner Sam Catlin.
Taking up the mantle as Jesse Custer, the evangelical practitioner at the heart of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s source material, is Dominic Cooper, a chain-smoking exorcist ready to deal with the best and worst that Heaven, Hell and everything else in between throws at him. He won’t be the only one battling forces from beyond our realm, though, considering the ensemble that Preacher has whipped together.
Opposite Cooper is Joseph Gilgun on board as irreverent Irish vamp Cassidy and Ruth Negga as Tulip – former flame to Cooper’s anti-hero – while the remainder of the cast feature Lucy Griffiths as Emily, W. Earl Brown as Sherriff Root, Anatol Yusef as DeBlanc, Tom Brooke as Fiore, Derek Wilson as Donnie Schenck and Ian Colletti as Eugene/Arseface.
If you were holding out hope for any kind of respite following The Walking Dead‘s midseason finale, don’t – Preacher will bring DC Vertigo’s jet-black drama to the small-screen on May 22.
Preacher is a supernatural, twisted and darkly comedic drama that follows a West Texas preacher named Jesse Custer, who is inhabited by a mysterious entity that causes him to develop a highly unusual power. Jesse, his badass ex-girlfriend Tulip and an Irish vagabond named Cassidy come together and when they do, they are thrust into a crazy world populated by a cast of characters from Heaven, Hell and everywhere in between.
