The first season of AMC’s small screen adaptation of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s controversial comic series, Preacher, only loosely adapted the source material over the majority of its 10 episode run. However, as we approached the season finale, we began to see some of the more familiar groundwork being laid, and the last hour culminated with our trio of antiheroes hitting the road with the biblical menace of the Saint of Killers hot on their trail.
AMC has already teased the next batch of episodes with some behind-the-scenes images and official stills, and now they’ve released a first trailer, which definitely suggests that the show will indeed reward fans’ patience with a more comic-faithful second season. In the footage presented to us, we see Jesse Custer and his seriously dysfunctional surrogate family joke about the song “Come on Eileen” (which is indeed “shite”… no argument from me!), before we get a quick montage of some of the madness that awaits them.
In addition to a shadowy new look at The Saint, there’s a mysterious blonde lady that warns Custer about some powerful enemies (most likely The Grail), some explosive action, and what looks like a man on a leash in a dog costume. Confirmation that we’ll be paying a visit to the house of a certain Jesus de Sade, perhaps?
Preacher season 2 is set to premiere on June 10, and will be comprised of 13 episodes instead of 10 this time around. All of the principal cast members (well, excluding the ones that met a fiery end in the closing moments of the season 1 finale) are expected to return, and our trio will also have a new villain to contend with in the form of the unscrupulous Herr Starr. Suffice it to say, there’s a lot to look forward to with the show’s sophomore outing.
