The Vampire Diaries is coming back from its much unanticipated spring hiatus and after the last episode (which is still saved on my DVR) there were more than a few things worth weighing in on!
Season 3 has had one surprise after another and with only 6 episodes left, this is how I think things will play out!
The Originals –
Season 3 has unofficially been titled the ‘Season of the Originals’ but so far we only got the lot of them for a measly 2 episodes before most of the recently revived skedaddled out of Mystic Falls, after the Original Witch flubbed on a ritual she had only been planning for 1000 years!
What we have left after the dust settled was one scorned vampire/werewolf hybrid and one pretty, yet dangerous vampire who is almost as broody as the resident vampire we adore (how they worked as a couple is a mystery). I predict that after all the effort to establish a visible connection between Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Elena (Nina Dobrev), that Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Rebekah (Claire Holt) will have some company before long. The moral Elijah will come back to make things right with the damsel he put in distress.
If you ask me, Elijah won’t be the only original pairing up before the season finale. Rebekah and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) may have only hooked up out of spite and mutual-rejection, but they make an interesting couple. They both seem overdue for some return attention and I predict they will look to each other for comfort more often in the coming weeks.
And then there’s the question of Klaus and Caroline (Candice Accola). The answer – yes, please! Klaus has shown that he has genuine feelings for her and even after she betrayed him in the last episode, he should know better than anyone that second chances can be earned. I predict that these two lovebirds will give it a go! I mean, the writers wouldn’t dare disappoint fans with another would have, should have Damon/Elena type situation, would they?
The Lost Boys –
Tyler (Michael Trevino) left town to continue severing his bond with Klaus, but he can’t fun forever. I predict that he will show up just in time to watch Klaus seal the deal with Caroline.
That still leaves Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) who was compelled to go stay with some family friends after the danger level jumped to a startling high. With everything going on with Bonnie (Kat Graham) and her mother (Persia White), I predict that Jeremy’s return is inevitable. Bonnie needs someone to be her rock and Jeremy has always had a calming effect on her – except when he’s hiding the fact that he can see the ghost of his ex-girlfriend..
The Salvatore Brothers –
It’s already been revealed that Stefan (Paul Wesley) took himself off the human blood diet and went back to his “vegetarian” ways. He is well on the way to moral recovery, but this time he may have to do it without Elena by his side. I predict that before a reunion between the star-crossed lovers, he will have to spend some solo time. Sorry hardcore Stefan/Elena fans, but he’s just too broody right now to deserve anything more. Plus, if Delena fans didn’t get to live out all their desires this season, than everyone deserves to be on a Salvatore + Elena hiatus for a while. And, she deserves a break from being the monkey in the middle.
The Psychopath –
There is still an air of mystery around Dr. Meredith Fell (Torrey DeVitto), but the diagnosis doesn’t look good after she shot an injured Alaric (Matt Davis). I suppose there is still hope that someone else was in the room, but even for an optimist like me, it seems unlikely. Something about her is completely off. Alaric just has the worst luck when it comes to women and this pattern has only been reconfirmed. I predict that Alaric is still alive and somehow there is an offbeat explanation just waiting to be revealed. What it is I have no idea!
Whatever happens the rest of the season, I just hope it’s not the last we see of Klaus. He has definitely grown on me and could be a big asset to the whole gang when a new enemy threatens the likes of Elena – or someone else in Mystic Falls – but let’s face it, it’s most likely someone coming after Elena.
The Vampire Diaries returns to The CW on Thursday, March 15th at 8 p.m. E.S.T.
