The ‘is he, isn’t he?’ battle still rages on this episode of Pretty Little Liars and no one is being declared the winner just yet. For the past few episodes Spencer (Troian Bellisario) has been following clues which ended up linking Ezra (Ian Harding) to a slew of A-like behavior and Ali’s stolen diary, sending him straight to the top of the suspect list. Before the Liars can confront Aria (Lucy Hale) with the truth though they are side stepped by another revelation. And frankly, Spencer should be insulted that it took her best friends this long to notice.
Last week we took a trip into Spencer’s drug-induced daydream, which incidentally looked a lot like something Aria might rent. It’s a shame that it took Spencer turning to prescription drugs to have a breakthrough, but it did lead the Liars to some important new information. It also gave them enough confidence to approach Aria with their theory. Unfortunately, that announcement was postponed when they found her snuggling up with the enemy.
On this episode of Pretty Little Liars we pick back up with Spencer the morning after, and someone is definitely in need of her beauty rest. Spencer’s extracurricular activities don’t get past Ezra, who finds her before school hours snoozing at his desk. Note to Spencer: don’t incriminate yourself when trying to prove someone else is a murderous psychopath. Just a suggestion.
This new development damages Spencer’s credibility with all the Liars, and when she blurts out the truth she’s uncovered to Aria it doesn’t exactly go the way it may have played out in her head. What’s even more unbelievable is how wishy-washy Hannah (Ashley Benson) and Emily (Shay Mitchell) are on the matter. One day they’re convinced that Ezra is A and less than 24 hours later they are firmly seated in first-class on the ‘Spencer is crazy’ train.
It’s been a while since all the Liars have been entirely on the same page, but judging on how Pretty Little Liars ended tonight, it won’t be long until we see them present a united front once more, which will be nice for multiple reasons. First, A seems to do the most damage when divide and conquer is the tactic du jour. Second, when they work together things actually get done. Finally, let’s not forget that at the end of the day, they’re all on the same team – and they may be the only ones.
There’s no argument that Aria definitely got the short end of the stick when all the cards were on the table. Spencer may be in a heap of trouble with her addiction, but Aria’s officially met her breaking point. Ezra has been in her life for just as long as A (give or take a day). He is her first love. Even if he isn’t A, he’s still been lying to her from the beginning. Ergo, their entire relationship is forever altered. Even if somehow she can manage to move past this – and that’s a big if, dependent on all the other secrets he’s still keeping – it will never be the same. The quintessential Pretty Little Liars couple is officially dead and buried.
Are you mourning the loss of Aria and Ezra, or are you excited to see what she’ll do now that he’s not holding her back? Do you think Mona (Janel Parrish) is his research partner or partner in crime?
