Executive producer Marlene King has signalled the curtain call for those Pretty Little Liars, confirming that the cult series will return in April of next year with a seventh and final season.
Word comes by way of Facebook, where King, joined by the core PLL cast – Troian Bellisario, Ashley Benson, Lucy Hale, Shay Mitchell and Sasha Pieterse – reflected on the bittersweet announcement (see below), all the while teasing the “wild ride” still to come in 2017. Closing the book with another ten episodes, King went on to reveal that she’ll be closely involved in the final run of Pretty Little Liars, even directing the season – and indeed series – finale of Freeform’s popular drama.
News that our time in Rosewood is coming to an end isn’t all that surprising, given how both the cast and crew have hinted at the inevitable conclusion over the past few months. Now, it’s a done deal.
Here’s the official statement on today’s confirmation:
“It’s been an honor to work with such a talented cast and crew over the last seven years. We are a family, and it will be hard to say goodbye to a show that has made such an impact on young audiences and been a mouthpiece for cultural change. I’m excited for fans to finally have all of their questions answered, and I believe they will be satisfied with the wild ride that is our last ten episodes.”
