Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. returned to ABC tonight, and while you have to feel for the show after it followed the incredible first part of this year’s Arrow/The Flash crossover, it still did an awesome job of setting the stage for next week’s midseason finale. Of course, with Agent Carter set to premiere in January, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. won’t actually return until March – a hellish wait for fans.
With both S.H.I.E.L.D. and HYDRA heading to the alien planet Simmons was trapped on for very different reasons, “Maveth” is clearly going to be a huge episode. It remains to be seen whether it will end on a cliffhanger or wrap this story arc up in order to set the stage for some sort of Captain America: Civil War crossover next year, but the ramifications of Coulson and Ward clashing on the planet will no doubt be massive either way.
Here’s the synopsis for the episode, courtesy of Marvel and ABC:
S.H.I.E.L.D. and Hydra go head-to-head in a battle that will change Coulson’s world forever. While Daisy and her team of Inhumans fight to keep Hydra at bay, Coulson and Fitz take the ultimate risk, in the epic winter finale of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” Tuesday, December 8th on ABC.
As I said, this one is going to be big. Whatever your feelings may be about Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the series never fails to deliver when it comes to finales, and I wouldn’t mind betting that this one ends with both Coulson and Ward trapped on Maveth and forced to put their differences aside to survive.
