If you’ve read any of my posts, you’ll know that I’m not quite a superhero/comic book fan. I never really got into the whole ‘guys in capes’ world that many of my friends enjoy. But you know who I am a fan of? Agent Coulson. Who doesn’t love the Son of Coul, the guy who verbally slapped Tony Stark, idolizes Captain America and, apparently, got stabbed in the chest by a god and survived?!
It will come as no surprise, then, that I’m excited for Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D, set to premiere on ABC this fall. According to Joss Whedon, we get to discover just how Agent Coulson survived being stabbed through the chest.
The solution to this mystery sounds like it’s going to be more than just fakery or good luck. Joss Whedon recently told EW exactly nothing about what happened, saying, “We can’t wait to pull the curtain back on that … We’re going to take our time.”
Damn it, Joss! Well, at least he’s confirming that we will eventually learn the truth behind Coulson’s resurrection.
Whedon did give a little more to go on concerning the place of Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D in the wider Marvel Universe. The first episodes will pick up not at the end of The Avengers, but a plot thread from somewhere in the earlier Marvel films. Says Whedon:
We plan on trying to weave in between the films and try to make them more rewarding on both ends … In any of these [episodes], you can always ask: ‘Why don’t they just call Iron Man?’
Why don’t they just call Iron Man, though? I guess because then there wouldn’t be a show. Let us not question the verisimilitude of a universe populated with gods, aliens, super-soldiers and dudes in iron suits.
More details on Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D are likely to hit at Comic Con next week, so we will keep an eye out. We hope you will too.
Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D will air Tuesdays at 8pm on ABC this fall.
