While the Avengers had Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury to bring them together, the character that connected the Defenders was Rosario Dawson’s tough nurse Claire Temple. Since first appearing as an ally and brief love interest to Matt Murdock in Daredevil season 1, Claire has turned up in Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist to help out the heroes when in need. In fact, the only season of a Marvel/Netflix show that she hasn’t featured in is the debut run of The Punisher.
So, it’s not too surprising to hear that Dawson will be reprising her role in the upcoming third season of Daredevil and the sophomore season of Iron Fist. The announcement comes from Discussing Film, and though they don’t specify how they came by this scoop, we heavily suspect they’re on the money with it.
The last time we saw Dawson in The Defenders, Claire had teamed up with Matt, Jessica, Luke, Danny Rand, Misty Knight and Colleen Wing to bring down the Midland Circle skyscraper, which turned out to be the HQ of the Hand. Claire is also currently “having coffee” with Luke and is unemployed, though she’s still available to use her insanely good nursing skills when called upon.
As with the rest of the characters in this corner of the MCU, Claire’s arc is essentially a long-form origins story for where she usually is in the comics. And, seeing as she’s Night Nurse, a superhero-aiding medical professional, in the source material, fans are waiting for Claire to set up her own facility at some point in one of the Marvel/Netflix series.
Could this happen in either one of the aforementioned shows’ next seasons? It’s possible, and if so, Iron Fist season 2 would be the best bet. She might need a loan from Danny to fund it, after all.
By the sounds of it, Dawson won’t appear in March’s Jessica Jones, but Daredevil season 3 and Iron Fist season 2 are set to land on the streaming service later this year. As always, we’ll let you know as soon as Netflix announces a firm release date for each.
