Actor Ryan Phillippe (Damages, The Lincoln Lawyer) appeared on the Howard Stern show this morning, and announced that he’s currently in talks with Marvel Studios for a role in one of their Netflix series. While Phillippe didn’t open up about what role that could be, all it takes is one look at the streaming service’s upcoming lineup of Marvel shows to jump start the speculation engine and get the rumor mill turning.

We’ve already seen our Daredevil in Charlie Cox, and we know that Krysten Ritter and Mike Colter will be taking on the roles of Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, respectively. So, the one major role left to cast for the upcoming Defenders shows is that of Daniel Rand, a.k.a. Iron Fist. Could Phillippe be taking on the role of the master martial artist-turned super hero? It definitely seems like it.

Phillippe is certainly a big enough star to lead his own series, as evidenced by his current role in ABC’s Secrets and Lies. Add the fact that ABC is owned by Disney and it’s not too far-fetched to think that he may have caught the attention of Marvel.

That being said, Iron Fist isn’t the only role that Phillippe could be playing. He may have landed a supporting part in one of the other shows, like that of Daredevil villain Bullseye, who is heavily rumored to show up in the recently-announced second season, which airs next fall. At this point, all we can do is speculate, but Iron Fist certainly seems the most likely.

We’ll have more news on Phillippe’s potential Marvel role as more information becomes available. Until then, let us know which role you’d like to see him take on in the comments section below.
