Though Marvel is still struggling with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., even despite introducing Ghost Rider into the mix this year, they’re certainly having no trouble at all with their Netflix efforts. Ever since Daredevil arrived on the streaming service, it’s been one hit after another, with Jessica Jones and Luke Cage following suit, making it 3 for 3 for the studio. Next up is Iron Fist, which is the final piece of the puzzle before the sure to be epic team-up series The Defenders.
Now, as we draw closer to the show’s premiere (March 17th is the date for your diaries, folks), we’re staring to learn more and more about it. Not too long ago, we received a list of some of the directors who will be stepping in to helm here, and today, we’re hearing of one more individual whose name is sure to excite fans: RZA. The rapper and longtime leader of hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan is credited as the director on episode 6 of Iron Fist‘s first season.
Though he doesn’t have a ton of experience in this particular field, RZA is sure to bring something special to the show. Anyone who’s seen The Man with the Iron Fists (no relation) will know that the rapper turned director (and sometimes even actor) knows his way around shooting martial arts. While that film was far from perfect, it was more than enjoyable and showed promise. As such, we’re certainly excited to see what he can do with Marvel’s upcoming show.
Speaking about what RZA brought to the episode, star Finn Jones said that he “has a really good vision of what he wants” and “really understands that genre, the martial arts genre.” Sounds promising to us, and given that Marvel has always shown a knack for picking exciting directors, we’re confident that this will work out well for all parties involved.
Iron Fist punches its way onto Netflix on March 17th. Tell us, are you excited to see what RZA can bring to the series? Sound off in the usual place and let us know!
